Public School Vs Home

I have noticed a large amount of young ladies who want to go to public school as soon as they reach highschool age, however, when I talk to them they really have no idea what they are hoping for or in for.

All of the popular teen movies (like Highschool Musical, A Cinderella Story, Princess Protection Program) that most of these girls are watching promote a 'fairy-tale' version of public school. Even the "bad" parts of the movie, where the main character is made fun of or abused, is not 'that bad'.

Would anyone be willing to share their experience of public school in an essay of 2,000 words or less? If so, please e-mail it to me at joymarie89 [at] aol [dot] com - Edit: My apologies, ladies, this should read: missjoymarie89 (at) aol (dot) com . Got it right except for the 'miss' at the beginning! Please try again to send me your essay! -

The three top essays will be posted on this blog. Thanks a lot! :-)

Hi Joy! I would love to share my public school experience with you. :-) I'll get to work on that essay.

I was homeschool all my life, but I have so many friends that are not. It is hard to watch them struggle with so many things.

Hey Joy- I tried to email you, but it was returned to me. Is that your correct email address?

Sorry about that, I posted the wrong e-mail address! It should read "missjoymarie89 (at) aol (dot) com" See if that works. :-)

Hi there
I'm new to your blog. My name is Laura and I was wondering about a few things. I know there's those who say that ladies should only wear skirts. I've never been much of a skirt person...do you think it's immodest to wear pants, even modest jeans that aren't tight? I'd like some help with this. What about jeans with a feminine top?

Thanks
Laura

This has nothing to do with your post, but I noticed that you studied Nutrition and herbal healing. I thought I was the only "homeschoolee" to study herbal healing. It's nice to know that there is somebody else who studies it!

Hello Katie!
Thank you for your comment! It is so neat that you are studying herbal healing as well! :-) I was using Shonda Parker's Home Study Course, what are you using? How is it going for you?
I was half way done when she revised the course, and I haven't brought myself to repeat the work I already did just yet. Hopefully soon though. :-)
Thanks again for your comment!

I used Blue Heron Academy's herbal course and really liked it. I think I will learn more in actual practice, but that would be the case with any course. I want to be a Naturopathic Doctor someday. What about you?

That's really neat! :-) I hope to be able to 'doctor' on my family someday. I think that it is an important skill to have; especially with all of the 'health care' stuff that's going to happen.
I also learned a bit about edible wild plants... have you ever studied those? Very helpful! :-) I didn't use a course, I just bought a couple of field guides. It was so neat to go outside and pick something for supper!

Thanks for your comment!

I haven't studied edible plants, but I would like to. It would be fun to know that if I got lost in the woods, I would know what I could and couldn't eat.
I would like to learn more about finding herbs in the wild. So far the only picking I've done is off the store shelf.
Have you tried making your own capsules yet?

Katie said...

Oh, and I completely agree with you on the health care stuff.

I think that public school can be good for some people. I went and I personally loved the classroom set up and being around lots of different people. Of course you will meet people who do drugs have sex ect. but everyone is not like that.It was not hard for me to stand up for what I believe in. The bible says to be in the world, not of it. That does not mean you have to hide away in your house. Be in the world as a light. Public school is not as bad as you think.

Thank you for your opinion, my friend.
The comment section is not the place to begin a debate, and one of the reasons I am working on this is so that we can look at what is 'real' - which is neither the fairy tale nor the horror tale.

If you would like to participate by writing an essay, please do send me your entry, but please do not be rude about other people's beliefs in an anonymous comment; it hardly give you credibility.

Katie: Well, I have filled my own capsules, if that is what you mean. :-)
The Peterson Field Guides are really good for the edible plants stuff. :-)

Have a great day.

Yes, that is what I meant. Have you made tinctures, teas, etc.? I tried making a tincture, a tea, an ointment, and making capsules. I like capsules the best.
